Position Summary:
The Museum Educator, Youth & Family Programs, at Crystal Bridges Museum and The Momentary (CBMO) is responsible for developing and implementing diverse and engaging programming for youth and family audiences across both spaces. This role involves creating programs inspired by CBMO’s art, exhibitions, architecture, wellness initiatives, and nature, which aim to grow youth and family audiences and align with the distinct identities of the two spaces.
Success in this role requires embracing innovation, a growth mindset, and collaboration, along with a keen understanding of youth and family audiences and awareness of cultural trends. The role champions inclusivity and community engagement, encouraging joyful learning, diverse perspectives, and social connections. Close collaboration with internal colleagues, artists, performers, volunteers, and community partners is crucial, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends is essential for program scheduling.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead educator, developing content and engagements for programs encompassing camps, drop-in engagements, partner-driven co-hosted programs, school break programming, in-gallery programming, and others as assigned at both Crystal Bridges and the Momentary.
- Collaborate with the Manager of Youth & Family programs on planning engagements for large multigenerational events, special exhibition openings, and family days, as needed.
- Work closely with the Community Engagement team on co-hosted partner programs for youth and family audiences.
- Research and implement innovative strategies in leading effective youth and family programming and engagements.
- Work closely with the Manager of Youth & Family Programs on both informal and formal assessments for all programs.
- Keep systems up to date with program details for planning, marketing, and public attendance.
- Consistently monitor and evaluate programs against strategic objectives of reach, revenue, and reputation.
- Work with the division’s strategic operations team to coordinate marketing and communications needs, event production needs and business and program planning efforts.
- Draft marketing copy for assigned programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, art education, or related field preferred.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- An ability to teach a range of ages and create meaningful connections between the audience and art, nature, architecture and wellness.
- Knowledge of the visual arts and museum pedagogy preferred; knowledge of or willingness to learn about nature and architecture.
- Highest ethics as they relate to all aspects of museum practices and confidentiality
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Ability to work independently, as well as within a team
- Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required
- A good sense of humor and a calm demeanor under pressure
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to use or willingness to learn museum applications including Asana
- Bilingual (Spanish language) is a plus
- Two years’ experience in planning and presenting educational programs in a museum setting, educational institution, or equivalent experience required.

- Physical demands: This position requires the capability to move and be present in the galleries for extended periods of time and navigating through the different Museum buildings and on the trails and grounds. Position requires good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching for gathering of teaching materials, and physical stamina to lift and carry supplies. Vision abilities required by the job include close and distant vision.
- Work environment: The majority of work will be performed in museum spaces, with meetings and trainings taking place in various spaces throughout the museum. When not in the office, the employee will be spending extensive amounts of time in the Museum buildings, grounds, galleries, and library. The noise level in the Museum work environment is usually low to moderate.
